Post Election Reponses from Elected Officials – Reaction to Election

Monday, October 27, citizens across Ontario elected their municipal officials for 2014-2018.

The Grey Bruce Business Journal asked the people elected in Owen Sound,
‘Are you happy with the results of the election?’

We are awaiting responses from Councillor Peter Lemon.

Mayor-elect Ian Boddy

‘Yes, I am looking forward to working with a renewed council who will bring fresh ideas to the table, and we have strong incumbents who will bring experience.’ Mayor-elect Ian Boddy

Arlene Wright

Deputy Mayor Arlene Wright

‘Of course I am pleased to be returning and I look forward to working with the new council.’ Deputy Mayor Arlene Wright

Travis Dodd - Owen Sound Council Candidate

Councillor-elect Travis Dodd

‘Absolutely, we had 52% of the population take advantage of their right to vote. Even though that number is still relatively low in comparison to our population, it is a great increase since the last election, which was around 46-47%. I think we have a well-balanced group going into this next term that has a positive mindset to ensure Council stays productive and moving forward.’ Councillor-elect Travis Dodd

Councillor-elect Scott Greig

‘I am certainly very pleased with the results of the election.  The new council elect consists of a fine blend of experience with a new dynamic of youth, energy and perspective.’ Councillor-elect Scott Greig

Marion Koepke

‘Yes, I am happy with the results.  I feel the individuals elected worked very hard to be in the positions they gained.  I am certain it was very difficult for the electors given the number of candidates running for positions.’ Councillor-elect Marion Koepke

Jim McManaman - Owen Sound City Council

Councillor Jim McManaman

‘I congratulate all of the people who put their name forward for Council…placing your name on the ballot involves a huge commitment…and their participation brought forward important thoughts and ideas. When you see how much strife there is involved with elections around the world, I am always pleased when we see democracy in action in Canada. I would, however, have liked to see a larger percentage of voters participating in the election.’ Councillor Jim McManaman

Councillor-elect Brian O'Leary

Councillor-elect Brian O’Leary

‘Yes I am happy with the results of the election.’ Councillor-elect Brian O’Leary

Richard Thomas - Owen Sound Council Candidate

Councillor-elect Richard Thomas

‘It would be difficult not to be pleased with the results of the election. I ran for council because I wanted to see change, and change is what Owen Sound voted for. I’d like to thanks everyone who voted for me. I will work hard on your behalf.’ Councillor-elect Richard Thomas

We also asked, ‘What do you see is the major difference between this new council and the last?’

and, ‘What issues do you think the council will be addressing before Spring, 2015?’
